He was subsequently drafted into the US Army in 1955 and served in the Korean War. Jerry met the love of his life Judith (Judy) Brousseau when they were in the youth group at First Presbyterian Church Hollywood, they both have been members of the church for 70 plus years. Jerry grew up loving the water and the outdoors where he learned to fish and work on his life long love of golf. James (Jerry) Joseph Gensel was born in Ohio, when he was one year old his parents moved to Hollywood beach where they built a house on New York Street.
